The adoption of 3D Printing technology has hugely increased in the last few years - you can even buy 3D printers in the aisles of some supermarkets. Whilst being an undeniably convenient and flexible manufacturing process, there is sometimes doubt about the robustness and durability of the resulting 3D-printed objects, and whether they are able to meet the demands of a environment like an escape room. Escape Room players often physically man-handle objects with some force, in an attempt to crack them open and discover a hidden component or action.
In this video, I'll describe how I use 3D printing to create decorative, non-functional objects such as the baselisk head pictured, re-enforced with a clear resin coat to make them more durable. I also create custom electronics enclosures and mounts to house sensors and processors within escape room props, out of reach of players.
