A lot of finance teams want to move their profit and loss statement out of Excel and into Power BI, but building an automated P&L from the chart of accounts data can get tricky very quickly.
In this video, I show you how to build a fully automated income statement in Power BI from raw journal entry / chart of accounts data. We start from the raw data, create a simple P&L template, map account IDs to the right income statement lines, build the model, and then use a very simple DAX approach with TREATAS to make the whole thing work.
We also look at:
• how to structure Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 P&L lines
• why some account IDs need to be repeated across different profitability levels
• how to use virtual relationships in Power BI
• how to calculate current year, previous year, variance, and growth
• and how to turn a simple matrix into a more professional finance report / management report
