It’s crazy to think that nine years ago I made a video called Cheap and Cheerful HiFi… and here we are in 2026 doing it all over again.
The good news? Budget audio has gotten WAY better.
In this video, we’re putting together an affordable system built around the WiiM Amp Ultra, ELAC Debut 3 speakers, Monolith stands, homemade speaker cables, and a little bit of speaker placement magic to see just how far “cheap audiophile” can go in 2026.
We’ll talk streaming, room correction, Class D amplification, neutral speaker choices, why placement matters more than people think, and whether a budget system like this can actually embarrass older “audiophile” setups that cost a whole lot more.
