If you want greater control over exposure, highlights, shadows, white balance, colors, and other image adjustments, capturing photos in RAW format can provide significantly more editing flexibility than using a processed JPEG.

On the Galaxy S26 series, you can use the Camera app's Pro mode and select the appropriate Pro mode picture format. Open Camera, switch to Pro mode, open Camera Settings, go to Photo format, and select RAW when available. You can also choose RAW and JPEG together if you want both an editable RAW file and a convenient JPEG version.

RAW files preserve more of the image data captured by the camera and are designed for post-processing. They can be especially useful for landscape photography, portraits, night photography, difficult lighting conditions, and images that require extensive editing.

JPEG is already processed and compressed, making it smaller and easier to share with websites, social media platforms, messaging apps, computers, and other devices. If you want maximum editing flexibility, RAW is generally the better choice; if you want immediate sharing, JPEG is more convenient.

Remember that RAW files require more storage space and compatible photo-editing software. After enabling RAW capture, take a test photo and check the saved file in Gallery or a compatible file manager. If you select RAW and JPEG together, verify that both versions have been created.

For best results, keep sufficient storage available, back up important RAW photographs, avoid deleting the original RAW file before finishing your edits, and use a compatible RAW editor for processing.

The exact menu names and available options can vary depending on the Galaxy S26 series software version, camera mode, and device configuration. RAW-related features may also differ between Pro mode and Expert RAW.
