To appear invisible to your friends on Steam and in chats, follow these steps:

Using Steam Desktop App:
Launch the Steam app on your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.
Click on “Friends” at the top-left corner of the Steam window.
Select “Invisible” from the dropdown menu.
To revert back to your regular status, choose either “Online” or "Away".

Using the Friends List (optional):
If Steam is running in the background, you can quickly change your status:
Open your computer’s system tray.

Click the Steam icon.
Click “Friends”.
Next to your username, click the arrow and select "Invisible"
