Today we’re updating our seedling cart (1.0), a handy DIY version that grows 1600-3200 seedlings to a larger and sturdier version that grows 2-3X as much.
Steps to Assembling the Seedling Cart
1. First, make sure that your bottom shelf is high enough for the reservoir that sits underneath.
2. Then, space the shelves about 10.5 inches from each other.
3. The next step is to remove the shrouds and hang the T5 lights. Use cable ties to secure 8 lights on the underside of each shelf. Orient the first light so that the plug is on the most convenient side for your facility.
4. Test that all of your lights turn on.
5. Trim excess cable ties.
6. Position flood tables so that the the high end of the top flood table is on the same side of the rack as the reservoir.
7. Stagger the low and high ends of the flood tables so that the low end of the top flood table drains into the high end of the tray below it.
8. Now that your flood tables are all in place, it’s time to install plumbing components. Use a 1 1/4” hole saw to drill a hole in the center of the top table on the high side.
9. Remove the screen fitting on the 1/2” elbow and install it into this hole with the barbed end pointing down toward the reservoir.
10. Move to the other end of the top flood table. Use the 1 1/4” hole saw to drill two holes near each corner of the flood table.
11. Install two more 1/2” elbows in these holes.
12. Take one of the 3/4” elbows and place one of the short 3/4” vinyl tubing over one side of the elbow. Slide the end of the elbow with the vinyl into on of the two hole you drilled in step 10. Rotate the elbow so that the clear end of the elbow sits right above the bottom of the flood tray.
13. Repeat this step for for the other hole.
14. Take the 1/2” vinyl and place it over one end of the 1/2” elbow. Place the other end of the vinyl over the end of the elbow above. This should allow the end of the vinyl (and the elbow connected) to hang just inside the tray below.
15. Repeat steps 10-14 for the flood tables below until you come to the last table. For the last table, the draining vinyl will lead to your reservoir tank.
16. Finally, connect the pump in your reservoir to the single center elbow in your top flood table. To do this, slide 1/2” vinyl tubing over the barbed end of the elbow fitting and the barbed fitting on top of your pump.

12. Take one of the 3/4” elbows and place one of the short 3/4” vinyl tubing over one side of the elbow. Slide the end of the elbow with the vinyl into on of the two hole you drilled in step 10. Rotate the elbow so that the clear end of the elbow sits right above the bottom of the flood tray.
13. Repeat this step for for the other hole.
14. Take the 1/2” vinyl and place it over one end of the 1/2” elbow. Place the other end of the vinyl over the end of the elbow above. This should allow the end of the vinyl (and the elbow connected) to hang just inside the tray below.
15. Repeat steps 10-14 for the flood tables below until you come to the last table. For the last table, the draining vinyl will lead to your reservoir tank.
16. Finally, connect the pump in your reservoir to the single center elbow in your top flood table. To do this, slide 1/2” vinyl tubing over the barbed end of the elbow fitting and the barbed fitting on top of your pump.
