Most beginner head turns look stiff, even when the drawings look great.
Often, the fix is simple: you may not need to improve your artwork, but you do need to think about motion.
If your animation feels robotic, you’re probably:
-Keeping the head the exact same shape the whole time
-Moving everything at the same speed
For a smoother and more dynamic head turn, do these instead:
-Keep the volume consistent while letting the shape change direction.
-Think in simple forms (spheres for the skull, jaw, etc.).
-Use overlapping action, so different parts move at different times.
-Adjust spacing depending on what’s moving.
-Ease in and ease out to remove stiffness.
