PART 1 - Over a decade ago, Summerside PEI had virtually no electricity-generating capacity besides expensive backup diesel generators. Something had to change. So the little city in Atlantic Canada set up their own utility, built a wind power project right in the city, started installing a smart grid and thermal energy storing furnaces and boom, suddenly they were getting 42% of their electricity from local, sustainable sources. It didn't stop there. In part one of this amazing story we look at the beginnings of the energy revolution in Summerside and how they used off-the-shelf technologies to do what few cities have done.
