Can filament made from PET bottles be a practical alternative to commercial 3D printing materials?
Walter Reeb (Hungarian Youtuber) sent me two 8-meter samples of filament produced from PET bottles using the Recreator3D system, so I decided to put them through several of my standard tests. Since the printed parts showed visible underextrusion, the extrusion multiplier likely needs to be increased for better results. Because of this, the measured properties in this video may not represent the maximum performance achievable with this material.
For reference, I also printed and tested parts made from Bambu Lab PETG Translucent and eSun PET using the same methods.
The video includes tensile testing, layer adhesion, impact testing, bending tests, heat resistance testing, and a practical hook load test.
