Pokemon Emerald left me with a loathing for the move Rock Smash when I was a kid. HMs in general were often some of the most irritating tedium found in these earlier games and I was unhappy every time I had to put one of the moves on my Pokemon- rock smash probably being the worst. However, as I've grown with these games, I find a lot of charm in this feature, as they also peppered lots of interactivity and ambience into the world with extra uses for the HMs. It's really cool how these little "chore" gameplay loops get set up with the moves' functionality and makes way for powerful experiences in game. Even cooler than Mudkip! This one's for all the Combusken, Aerodactyl, and Snorlax fans out there.
