Chris McGinnis '06 never imagined he'd become VP of Programs and Development for a nonprofit. A graduate with a studio art degree, he was drawn to Pittsburgh’s industrial past, where he found inspiration in the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark, a relic of the city's mighty steel industry. Discovering Rivers of Steel—a heritage corporation preserving the region’s industrial legacy—Chris worked with colleagues to create art programs on-site, turning a personal passion into a public mission. Without applying for a job, he built one. His efforts grew into a full-time role, expanding staff and attracting donors through festivals, workshops and creative initiatives.
