Today's video is all about "what to do when the insurance company denies your care." You're probably thinking, "but Barrett, they wouldn't deny you care, or a specific treatment?!" You my friend would be wrong. The insurance company has every incentive to deny your care and very few to approve it. It's a sad truth in America's health care system. But that's not the point of this video.
This video goes into a deep dive on my denial for Remicade infusions. I will share the notices, and even the astronomical cost of each Remicade infusion. There is a procedure to go through when appealing a denial and that procedure is best described at the link below:

That article goes in depth on the steps one should take to champion for their care. It's sad that often when patients are at their lowest, their health insurance would add unnecessary stress by denying patients the care their doctors prescribe for them. But it happens every day.
This is an overview of my experience with this from the point of getting sick in September of 2019 to diagnosis in March of 2020. My hope is that these videos can be informative to others who are seeking information about Crohn's and the treatments available to them. Be prepared, I tell it like it is, so these videos will go into pretty graphic detail about the "butt stuff."
Since January I had two EUAs (Exam Under Anesthesia) that resulted in one partial fistulotomy and two setons (drains) being placed. Two colonoscopies and two MRIs. I began Remicade infusions in mid-March, I incorrectly state in the video my start date for Remicade, apologies it's been a year. I'm also currently on Azathioprine an oral immune suppressant (chemo).
I have 9 additional videos planned for this series but likely will add to that as this journey continues. Expect videos on the surgeries I've had, my experience with colonoscopies, MRIs, going to battle with insurance over Remicade infusions, and my experiences with immunosuppressants and other treatments.
