OK, maybe I'm being a little too self-congratulatory here, lol. In truth, it was the Hilton hotel itself choosing to be proactive, research the problem, and then spend the money necessary to address it. (I think I can be proud, however, of the fact that I have helped several hotels and other buildings spend a very *small* amount of money in pursuit of this goal!)
If you were fortunate enough to attend the final ShmooCon in Washington, DC this past weekend (or if you saw some social media posts from others who were there) then you may already be aware of some upgrades that this property (and others around town) made to all of their doors. Yes, now every single door at the hotel is equipped with a small blocker shroud designed to make under-door attacks as preventable as possible while still complying with building regulations regarding ADA codes and fire codes.
I am proud that my team and I have highlighted this concern to the degree that many facilities teams are now aware of it and I am proud that my team and I have offered up a solution that is achievable and simple. Is it perfect? No... no security is absolutely perfect. But we have solid evidence from our customers that these are having the effect intended. And I think that's pretty cool.
