Hostomel is a village in the suburbs of Kyiv, near the Antonov airport. In the first days of the full-scale invasion, the Russians planned to use the airport to bring in their troops to capture the capital. However, the airport became a key point of resistance, as the Ukrainian army repelled the enemy.
Although their offensive on Kyiv failed, the occupiers caused significant damage during their occupation of Hostomel for more than a month. Today, the Hostomel community is gradually recovering from the occupation, largely thanks to local initiatives. This video highlights two successful examples of reconstruction. The first story is about the residents of a building in the Pokrovskyi residential complex who raised funds to restore their destroyed facade. The second is about the "Kharchyshyn Builds" project by the famous Ukrainian musician Valerii Kharchyshyn, who decided not only to rebuild his house, destroyed by Russian shelling, but also to demonstrate an alternative approach to construction that saves time and money.
