Inside German homes, nobody shares a duvet, nobody has a top sheet, and the recycling system has more bins than any American cabinet. I was born in Germany, raised there, and lived there until my mid-20s - I live in the US now, but I still visit family and friends often. In this video, I take you on a real tour inside German homes to show you how Germans actually live, not the tourist version.
You'll see the German bed setup up close: two separate single mattresses pushed together (yes, with a gap in the middle), two separate duvet covers instead of one shared blanket, and no top sheet - often called a "sleep divorce." I also show why most Germans use large wardrobes (a Kleiderschrank) or a built-in wall unit (Schrankwand) instead of a walk-in closet, what a Windfang entryway is and why everyone takes their shoes off there, and Germany's serious approach to recycling - compost, Wertstoff (recyclable plastics), paper, and glass, all sorted separately. Plus a look at why Germans actually use their backyards and gardens instead of just decorating them.
