Everyone knows FF7 Rebirth's writing is bad. But the Cosmo Canyon bonfire scene shows how truly bad it is. In the real Final Fantasy 7 (1997), the classic JRPG by Squaresoft, Cloud, Red XIII, Tifa, Barret, Cait Sith, Yuffie and Aeris sit around the fire in an intimate scene. The atmosphere is strong. In FF7 Remake by Square Enix however, it's a full rewrite where Aerith is now the main character, and she tells hundreds of strangers she's an Ancient (despite there being Shinra wanted posters for her everywhere). The poorly designed NPCs clap, and the whole thing reads like fan fiction. I then improve the scene by adding carefully timed farts. I hope you enjoy this shot-by-shot / side-by-side comparison.
