Hey everyone, Alianger a.k.a Typo of the Dad here. Welcome to a new video series where we journey through gaming history to uncover the origins and early evolution of significant or otherwise interesting aspects of games such as mechanics, narrative tools or the use of new technology.

First, a short backstory on why I started posting about the topic: While researching various video game firsts in recent years, I sometimes became frustrated with incorrect, shallow or scattered info online. First power-up? No, it's not from Pac-Man. First easter egg? No, not from Adventure. And so on. While wikipedia sometimes provides good articles about this sort of thing, its tendency to omit something if there's no written source that a few people consider reputable, means they tend to miss various firsts, and or early examples that someone playing, watching and reading about many older games are bound to find. Sometimes the correct info isn't even that hard to find if you just look past the first google search result, but most people aren't going to assume that it's incorrect.

Hence, this video series. From iconic features like the Power-Up, and Character Creation, to less covered ones like Immortality and Alternative Solutions, let's explore the birth of various game mechanics as well as the emergence of influential or unusual takes on them!
Oh and before we start, just note that given the size of the project and me being human as well as doing this on my own, there will probably be errors here and there as I go. Feel free to correct me on anything that you have good info on, or mention notable examples that I missed.

With that out of the way, let's delve into a quality of life innovation with a capital Q. Fast Travel!
