Fully double ended ferries have propellers at both ends and a hull shape that works reasonably well in either direction. That shape is less efficient than a conventional bow but it removes the need to ever turn the vessel around.

During the crossing the stern propeller does almost all of the pushing. The forward propeller spins slowly or feathers its blades to avoid creating drag while the ferry moves ahead.
