How does Red Dead Revolver and Undead Nightmare fit into Red Dead Redemption?
The concept of other universes has been present in Rockstar Games titles since 2008 with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, and the Red Dead series is no exception. Just like the more popular Grand Theft Auto series, Red Dead is divided into 3 self-contained universes, which ultimately overlap thanks to the presence of small easter eggs placed by developers.

RED DEAD REVOLVER
Originally a concept developed by Japanese game company Capcom, Red Dead Revolver was eventually picked up by Rockstar Games. Set in the 1880s, it follows the story of Red Harlow, a bounty hunter on a quest to avenge the deaths of his parents. The gameplay involves arcade-like elements and shooting mechanics, alongside a multiplayer mode called Showdown Mode.
UNDEAD NIGHTMARE
The game is set after saving John's family and before his eventual execution, but, obviously, it does not fit into the canon, as many characters (such as Uncle) die multiple times (for example, Uncle is the first zombie encountered and killed by John Marston, though in the original game, he dies in Edgar Ross' attack on the farm). An infectious outbreak of unknown origin amongst those on the frontier is rumoured to be caused by either Seth Briars stealing the glass eye from Tumbleweed, Nigel West Dickens with his miracle tonic, or the Mexicans by bringing the disease over the border from Nuevo Paraíso.
