It starts with strain measurement — not just assumptions or simulations, but real, measured data.

Carabiners used in climbing, rescue, and industrial applications are typically rated to 22 kN or higher, in compliance with standards like EN 12275, EN 362, or UIAA 121. But rating labels don’t tell the whole story. Engineers need to know how and where the structure deforms under load — especially near critical features like the gate, hinge, and spine.

By instrumenting a carabiner with precision strain gages, we can measure localized strains during tensile testing or simulated use. This allows us to:
šŸ”¹ Identify stress concentrations
šŸ”¹ Validate FEA models
šŸ”¹ Refine geometry for strength-to-weight optimization
šŸ”¹ Confirm safety factors beyond minimum rating requirements (often 2x or more)

It’s a small sensor, but it delivers big insight. In safety-critical gear, there's no substitute for measured performance.
