This video is a continuation of the Vatrer 24VDC house battery installation from on the 1996 Liberty Elegant Lady Prevost XL re-build. I left off with the batteries installed but still needing a 12VDC tap to run half of the house electrical functions as bus conversion do have to also interface with the 24VDC chassis but also with 12VDC systems so it can be confusing. While the original converter, Liberty, did just tap off the 12VDC AGM house battery bank, it is not a good option when it comes to lithium house batteries whether 12VDC or 24VDC as it can cause issues with battery balancing and performance. So the easiest method is to install DC to DC converters. I chose to use Victron Orion 70amp converters which will take 24VDC from the batteries and automatically turn it into on-demand 12VDC for the house electrical. I also decided to stack 2 in parallel like a 12VDC battery bank as the installed circuit could be using more than 100amp if all systems are used at once. While there are many methods to solve this issue, this was likely the easiest for me and with quality Victron equipment, should last another 20 or 30 years until the next re-build.
I also decided to upgrade, or down-grade, the on-board 24VDC chassis battery maintainer in order to free up space, but it's likely a good choice for most bus conversion to switch too for easy trickle charging of the chassis batteries.
Thanks for watching!
