In the legend of Korra, Zuko is seen riding on a majestic red dragon known as Druk. He was an extremely loyal companion to the Young Firelord and they travelled the world together undertaking missions. But that leaves the question. Where did Zuko find Druk, and could he have been born in the golden sun warrior egg? Well the answer to this may surprise you! So hit that subscribe button and let’s break it down! So in the legend of korra we’re never actually given much information about how Zuko acquired Druk. But luckily for us, we can dig deep into the Canon lore and find an answer in the avatar legends source book.
In this book we learn that Zuko found the young dragon in his early 20s, a very short time after the last airbender series ended. We also find out in the Avatar Art books that Druk is a descendant of the Firebending masters, ran and shaw… And this makes a lot of sense, as these were the last dragons left, as saved by Iroh… But that key fact right there is what could point to Druk coming from the golden dragon egg that was protected so viciously by the Sun-Warrior people.
The golden egg may have been placed into a secluded chamber to protect it from the dragon hunters of the Fire Nation, and to make sure that one day it would eventually hatch. The reason it may have been decorated so glamorously was to any bold adventurer who found it not believe that it was a dragon egg, and was immensely valuable, so they wouldn’t destroy it. Im sure some members of the fire nation tried to destroy Dragon Eggs and use that action to gain the Dragon Title from the fire lord…
On top of this, When Zuko grabbed the Egg inside of the chamber, he said that it felt alive. There’s absolutely no reason for the writers to include this line for Zuko unless it was meant to signal that there may be a real dragon baby inside. Maybe it was at the point where he felt this connection, that the Dragon inside of the egg was bound to Zuko for life. This is the same proess that Sky Bison use to choose an Air Nomad companion from a very young age.
