The eldest, Joseph Jr., was originally groomed for politics but died in WWII. John F. Kennedy then took up the mantle, becoming president in 1960. After his assassination, Robert Kennedy emerged as a potential candidate but was assassinated during his 1968 campaign. Edward Kennedy, the youngest, faced personal and political hurdles but eventually sought the presidency in 1980. Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful, marking the last time one of the Kennedy brother would run for president.
