Hunting animals to provide food and other essential products, such as fur or hides has gone on for millions of years. It has been essential to the survival of human beings and an integral part of our history. As far as recreational hunting goes, that is hunting for sport rather than necessity, that’s been happening since the Assyrian kings took to their chariots and hunted lions just to show off. For the Medievals, hunting was a revered sport, a display of strength, skill and social standing.
