✨ Ever wondered how a new crochet pattern comes to life? Join our designer, Nicole W., as she takes us behind the scenes of developing a brand-new design from concept to finished pattern. 🧶
⚔️ Step 1: The Inspiration
Every great pattern starts with an idea. For this fantasy-inspired collection, Nicole wanted to create a cardigan that felt like it belonged in a world of dragons, epic adventures, and magical quests.
🧶 Step 2: Choosing the Yarn
This journey started with the yarn selection. Nicole chose Super Saver Bitty Stripes in Coral Reef as the star of the design, paired with a contrasting shade of Super Saver in Aran to help key details stand out and bring the vision to life.
🐉 Step 3: Finding the Perfect Stitch
Next came the research and experimentation phase. Nicole explored our stitch dictionary library, looking for textures and techniques that would fit the fantasy theme. After plenty of swatching and testing, she found the perfect stitch pattern. The textured stitches reminded her of dragon scales, making it a natural fit.
✏️ Step 4: Sketches & Sizing
With the stitch pattern selected, it was time to start designing. Nicole created sketches, planned the construction, and worked through all the math needed to size the cardigan from XS–5XL.
🪡 Step 5: Building the Pattern
One of her goals was to keep the construction approachable for this cardigan. It's built using simple shapes, with the back and sleeves worked flat. Rows of single crochet were added along the tops of each piece to make seaming easier while creating a beautiful contrasting detail.
📸 Step 6: Bringing It to Life
Once the pattern is written and stitched, the final step is professional photography. This is where the sketches, swatches, calculations, and hours of design work transform into the finished project you see in our collection.
