The Make Housing Affordable and Defend Democracy Act proposes to redirect $175 billion in federal funding away from immigration enforcement and toward addressing the national housing affordability crisis. Jimmy Gomez on December 3, 2025, the Make Housing Affordable and Defend Democracy Act (H.R. 6390) boasts initial cosponsors including Eleanor Holmes Norton, Troy Carter, Andrea Salinas, Robert Garcia, Brad Sherman, Mike Thompson, Jesús G. "Chuy" García, Daniel Goldman, Sylvia Garcia, Gilbert Cisneros, Yassamin Ansari, Raul Ruiz, Luz Rivas, Shri Thanedar, Nanette Barragán, and Danny Davis.
