RESIST: To Protect Pregnant Women — A new short documentary from Brave New Films, bringing to light the tremendous harm and abuse that ICE is inflicting on soon-to-be mothers and their unborn children.
23-year-old U.S. citizen Cary Lopez Alvarado was 9 months pregnant when she was handcuffed, threatened, and thrown into detention by ICE agents. Hers is one of many horrific stories shared by women who say they were mistreated and neglected while pregnant in ICE custody — held in solitary confinement, denied adequate medical care, and shackled while miscarrying.
This short documentary from Brave New Films goes beyond the headlines to show what happens to pregnant women in ICE custody: through their own accounts, the professional insights of doctors and advocates who've heard them, and the reality of what it means to be pregnant and afraid for both your own life and your baby’s.
