HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series is here and the third episode helped to complicate the matters of succession. Episode 3 jumped ahead 3 years and King Viserys (Paddy Considine) and his wife Alicent are expecting their second child. Their first was a male named Aegon, and this has many at court thinking he should replace Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) as heir. There are tensions between the king and his daughter and he promises that he will stick by his decision to have her ascend to the Iron Throne.
His brother Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) are waging war in the Stepstones against the Crabfeeder. They’ve run into problems because their dragons aren’t as effective as they hoped they would be. This and a pledge of help from the throne leads to Daemon trying a near-suicide tactic that turns the battle. He kills the Crabfeeder and emerges victorious.
This video doesn’t contain any book spoilers that will reveal future events that have happened on screen.
Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) is putting pressure on his daughter Alicent to get the king to replace Rhaenyra with her son as heir. In episode 3 you get the sense that the people closest to the king would prefer that, but many lords have already pledged their loyalty to his daughter.
