Considered the worst director in history, especially thanks to his video game adaptations like Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, House of the Dead, and In the Name of the King. Obviously, that’s not true —not by a long shot— but audiences have embraced the meme, and it’s become part of his charisma. In reality, his adaptations are better than many of the ones we’re usually sold as “the good ones.”
But the German filmmaker really shines when he’s not tied to a licensed property. It’s in films like Sanctimony, Seed, Rampage or Blubberella that he unleashes his full arsenal of violence, gore, dark humor, and political incorrectness.
He announced his retirement ten years ago. Now he’s back behind the camera—to the horror of all his haters. Thanks to the Cutrecon film festival, I was able to talk to him about all this and more. Love his movies or hate them, he’s worth listening to. He’ll definitely surprise you.
