Here at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, our animal care team is constantly working to improve the socialization opportunities for our rescued dolphins. Yesterday, Hope the bottlenose dolphin got a chance to interact with Rosie the rough-toothed dolphin!
CMA is one of only two facilities in the US to care for rescued rough-toothed dolphins. While rough-toothed dolphins are a deep-water species and bottlenose dolphins live closer to shore, the two species have been known to interact together in the wild.
This introduction facilitates a more natural fission-fusion social grouping with our cetaceans and provides social variability between our resident dolphins! The introduction went well and we look forward to many more positive encounters.
