Watch and wait for the One who gives us a reason to confidently persevere in HOPE.
Like our ancestors in faith who patiently expected God to follow through with the promises made to them, we too hold onto HOPE that the Lord continues to be with us today and is able to help us.
HOPE is a perspective that encourages us to keep going, because of what has happened before; it’s a looking ahead while simultaneously keeping an eye on the rear-view mirror.
As it says in Romans 8, “If we already have something, we don’t need to HOPE for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.”
The Christmas season is a time to both remember the long-awaited arrival of the Messiah in Jesus Christ, as well as to anticipate what is yet to come. It’s a bringing to mind that there is HOPE for us all because of that great mystery of the Incarnation – when God is said to have become human, like us. It’s an opportunity for us to pause when we are discouraged, and to consider that even Jesus needed to learn how to HOPE.
It may be dark, but we are not in the darkness alone. And so, we watch and wait for the One who gives us a reason to confidently persevere in HOPE.
