Embed this video on your website if you care about bees. If you see a swarm, go to Bees-on-the-Net.com or call a local beekeeper. If a hive becomes too crowded, the bees make a new queen. Just before the new queen emerges from her cell, the old queen flies off with a large proportion of the worker bees. This is called a swarm.
The swarm will cluster somewhere while scouts look for a suitable new location. Once they've found one, the whole swarm takes off and heads for the new home. We suggest a swarm is removed at this stage, because if the scout bees find an entrance to your roof or cavity wall they may decide to make your house their new home.
A swarm of bees should NOT be killed, we need our bees, call a beekeeper!
