This little 2000 watt (peak) setup kept us powered during Hurrican Irene. It's configured with a 6.5 gallon fuel tank and quick release hose connections. We ran extension cords from the generator to various parts of the house. It kept a sump pump available, and we alternated connecting it to the refrigerator and the freezer for a few hours at a time, so we didn't lose any food items. This is a nice, quiet setup, and we would consider getting a second unit and hooking them in parallel to provide twice the capacity.
