I made an electric skateboard. I call it "Electric Skrateboard" after Dr. Steve Brule. I cut the board out of 1/2 inch plywood, and reinforced the rear wheel with one inch square steel tube. I got the MY1020 Unite Motor from ElectricScooterParts.com 36 Volt 1000 Watt Electric Scooter Motor with Mounting Bracket. I use four Dewalt 20V MAX 5.0Ah lithium ion batteries. Two of the batteries are in series to add volts, and the other two batteries are in parallel to add amps. I used broken clamshells for the battery clips, but you can 3D print them from Thingiverse. I mounted the thumb throttle on a small piece of PVC pipe. Power switch connects to the speed controller. I improvised a foot brake by attaching a rubber shoe to the bottom of the board, and drilled a small hole for a bolt to pass though. When you step on the bolt the brake skids on the road just like you are dragging your foot. Omaha Bicycle Company made the 16 inch bicycle wheel with a threaded hub for the freewheel clutch. I made an extra large 9 inch chain guard to keep the #25 chain from slipping off. The motor has a 13 tooth sprocket on it, the rear wheel has a 65 tooth gear or chainring, and the motor runs at 4,200 RPM with no load. Top speed with me on a flat road is 34 MPH / 55 KPH.
