Englewood, CO- Judge Jefferson- Englewood Municipal Court
Judge Jefferson is respected and appreciated in the community for his steadfastness at ensuring due process. I suppose he'd have to step down if he didn't accept this plea deal and call BS on the inhumane treatment of the unhoused? He'd be a lawbreaker. Jefferson uses the phrase “…and ya gotta stay outta trouble”, too often.
WTF does that even mean in this land of no rights left?
I’ll tell ya what it means: it means get on your knees when the cops show up and perform acts of forgiveness and repentance if you want to remain alive and live outside of a jail cell.
We call these deferred sentences. It’s American freedom and allegiance to your masters.
These types of hearings make me cringe and lose hope.
This is how the police in Englewood Co spend their time...in the park looking for homeless they can throw in jail for the crime of being alive. The city and their elected's champion this authoritative approach.
Great defense counsel? Not.
Oh well, this is in fact the fastest way to get out of jail for violating the park?

I wonder if it works this way for those illegally present in the country, state and city?
Nope. Can't identify them...they get to roam freely.

Englewood is no shortage of creating rules they've converted into municipal crimes for anything you can think of. If Englewood tells you that you cannot exist in Englewood, there's a "law" for it. If Englewood allows you to use a public restroom in their library and you refuse to follow orders for signing your name on a clipboard in order to use the restroom...there's a law for that too. If you smoke a cigarette in the park, you can and WILL go to jail.
I recently attended a "mediation event" hosted by the city of Englewood where neighbors that proliferate and exacerbate their disgust for the homeless and the church that serves them in Englewood, (movement5280.org/) are provided a "safe space" to now launch their petty complaints in an attempt to shut this ministry down. In attendance at this meeting on Tuesday, March 19th 2024, Englewood PD Division Chief Dave LeClair muttered the following to his faithful followers:
"....and we really enforce all the laws we have available to us" ~David LeClair
