The model railroad layout titled “La Gare de Landeyrat-Marcenat” (“The Train Station of Landeyrat-Marcenat”) was built by the French model railroad club AMCL 87 (“Association des Modélistes Cheminots de Limoges”) and depicts a single-track section of the former SNCF railway line between Neussargues and Bort-les-Orgues, which was located in the French Massif Central.
The centerpiece of the HO scale (1/87) miniature world is the Landeyrat-Marcenat train station, which opened in 1908. Located at an elevation of 1,065 meters, this railway station was once France’s largest transit hub for the transport of cows and cattle. As part of traditional, seasonal grazing practices, cows, cattle, sheep, and goats were moved between different climate zones - particularly from winter pastures to summer pastures. At that time, the animals were transported by rail. Every year, thousands of cattle were loaded at the Landeyrat-Marcenat train station. The model train layout does justice to this historical background: No fewer than 92 handcrafted model cattle populate the miniature landscape and the area surrounding the station.
French steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, and railcars operate on the 7.0 x 2.5-meter model railway layout. The French diorama, built primarily by club members Bernard Bransol and Fabien Roussy in 2013, was featured in the French model train magazine “Loco-Revue”. Since then, the miniature world has been on display at numerous European model railroading shows.
The railway modelling club AMCL 87 is one of the most long-standing clubs in France. The club focuses on building modular, easily transportable model rail layouts based on French designs. This video presents close-up shots of the lovingly designed miniature world, including the extremely detailed landscaping, the faithfully recreated train station with numerous scenes of everyday life, and the passing steam and diesel locomotives. To make the video even more realistic, the soundtrack was enhanced with authentic train sounds.
