Hjalmar Borgstrøm (1864-1925) was a Norwegian composer from the late Romantic period, one of the most influential in his country during the early 20th century. Written in 1905 and based on the Henrik Ibsen play of the same name, "John Gabriel Borkman" is a typically Romantic symphonic poem - colorful, at times turbulent, and inventively orchestrated throughout.
