This video is my response to the Historical Romance Reader Book Tag by Jessica at Peace Love Booksxo ... this is an older book tag but I thought it would be a lot of fun to answer the questions so here goes! Sorry my book shelves are not ready for the camera! I had to film in my office at my table.
To my fountain pen and ink followers: I'll be back to regularly scheduled fountain pen hobby programming in the next video I promise!!!! Thank you - I just couldn't resist this tag.

I just recently started following Jessica and a handful of other "book tube" people and I sure appreciate all they do to recommend books and make videos!!! For the first time in YEARS I'm trying new authors in the historical romance genre. For many years I just couldn't find any books I wanted to read that measured up to Kathleen Woodiwiss and Penelope Williamson (2 of my very favorite authors in this genre). But already, I've enjoyed an entire book series by Lisa Kleypas and I'm sampling other authors too. In the long run, who knows if I will still keep it old school or if one of the new generation historical romance writers will steal my allegiance to Kathleen.
For question 4 - I also meant to mention that I want to read some of Lorraine Heath's western historical romances!
Here are the 13 questions put forth in the tag:
#historicalromancereaderbooktag
THE QUESTIONS
1. What was the first historical romance you ever read? Shanna ~ Kathleen Woodiwiss
2. What was the last historical romance you read? Just finished a charming series The Ravenel's by Lisa Kleypas - my first "new to me" historical romance author in a long time!
3. Who is an underrated historical romance author you wish more people read? Penelope Williamson - she has 6 historical's and although they are a quite emotional ... I really love her stories!!!!
4. Who is a historical romance author you haven't read yet but need to? Tesa Dare, Shana Galen, Julie Garwood, and many others including Lorraine Health's western historical romances.
5. What historical romance would you recommend to people who are new to the genre? I'm just not sure about this.
6. What is your favorite historical romance of all time? Hands down it's: A ROSE IN WINTER by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I'd totally marry Christopher! Sorry Manuel!
7. Do you prefer new or old school historical romance? Not sure yet - until after I give a fair try to some of the new authors. As long as the stories are interesting plots and don't rely totally on the intimate scenes which are great - don't get me wrong ... then I like the books. But I have a very high bar becasue of my love of some of the old writers who were really special in their story telling and plot development.
8. What are your favorite historical romance tropes? Before watching Jessica's channel I would have asked "what's a trope?" lol .... I guess "torn between two love interests", time traveling (I totally forgot to mention The Outlander series oh my gosh), arranged marriages or getting out of arranged marriages, quite a few different interesting story types are good - taken hostage but saved, things like that.
9. What are your favorite historical romance settings? England, Scotland, and the frontier/west US.
10. What is the oldest historical romance you own? Oldest copywritten would be The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss.
11. What is you favorite stepback you own? I have two really pretty ones from an author I have yet to read but I love the step back in Catherine Coulter's The Deception and I recently bought a book just because of the beautiful green cover: Sarah MacLean's No Good Duke Goes Unpunished.
12. What historical romance releases that you are excited for?
13. What creators do you follow for historical romance recommendations?
Here are a few of the book tube ladies I really enjoy following:

I started reading HISTORICAL romances when I was 15. Which was a minute ago for sure. I'm 57 now. My first historical romance was Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss - this set the bar pretty high. I didn't always find books in the genre that I could enjoy after reading hers and waiting as each book came out during the 80s and onward. Then I found Penelope Williamson and although different -- hers were up to the challenge. Since then I've continuing looking but now with the wonderful You Tube "book tube" the game has changed and you can find out about new authors so easily. I wonder what my old friend Cheryl is reading these days. We lost touch after she moved and I went into the Air Force.
Thank you for watching. And happy reading!!!!!
