The One Water Wastewater Project is a $1.2B commitment to support residents and the environment
Hillsborough County, Fla. (April 22, 2026) - Hillsborough County is embarking on one of the largest projects in the county's history with the $1.2 billion One Water South Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Project in Lithia. The groundbreaking for the project is at 10 a.m. Friday, April 24.
The new plant is the next phase of Hillsborough's One Water Program, which is a forward-thinking, large-scale initiative to ensure resiliency and sustainability for Hillsborough County water customers. Led by Water Resources, the program addresses both immediate and long-term water and wastewater needs in the County's South-Central Service Area, which includes Apollo Beach, Brandon, Gibsonton, Riverview, Ruskin, Wimauma, Sun City, and Valrico.
The wastewater conveyance and treatment project will consist of three important components:
One Water Campus Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility: A new, advanced wastewater treatment facility expected to handle the region's needs through at least 2050.
Balm Road Super Lift Station: A new pump station with the capacity to pump up to 56 million gallons of wastewater a day to the new wastewater treatment facility.
Wastewater and Reclaimed Water Pipelines: New pipelines to move wastewater and reclaimed water to the new One Water Campus and the County's new reclaimed water system.
