Hill-Billy Village (this is the way they spelled it) dated back to ca. 1954 with a museum that opened on May 1, 1968. In the museum was an actual confiscated 50 gal copper still that was in operation at the time on Webb Mountain near Gatlinburg, TN in 1957. This village was one of the first souvenir stores to open in Pigeon Forge. It was predated 10 years by Homespun Village in Gatlinburg which covered 3 acres with 11 buildings. That attraction was located on Airport Road on what is now part of a parking lot at the Gatlinburg Civic Center. Hill-Billy Village sold everything under the sun for tourist who have flocked to the Smoky Mountains generation after generation. Although Hill-Billy village is gone now, there are more that enough souvenir and craft shops to accommodate curious vacationers and mountain lovers who show up.
