New Mexico is a gem that for some reason is totally underrated. I didn't know that right outside Albuquerque is an incredible wilderness area with one of the best accessible thru-hiking trails in the country, the Sandia Crest Trail run 26.3 miles along a wild ridge right at the edge of the city. Half a million people stare up at these mountains every day while most are oblivious to the incredible hiking trails out their doorstep.
