Hiking Echo Mountain in Altadena, CA took more than 2 hours round trip. At about 5.5 miles, the trail was filled with amazing views of Los Angeles. The Echo Mountain trail itself wasn't too difficult in terms of terrain. Most of the trail is well maintained. There won't be much rock hopping or trekking through thorny bushes. In terms of steepness and elevation gain, the trail becomes a moderate hike. The approximate gain for echo mt. is about 1500 ft.
At the top of the hike, you will run into the historical remains of an old hotel. In addition, you find out why its called Echo Mountain when you find the echo phone.
In summation the echo mountain hike is a moderate hike. This is coming from someone who attempts to exercise regularly but fails lol. I recommend bringing at least 2 Liters of water and a pair of good hiking shoes. The trail gets busy on the weekends with trail runners and hikers, but the views at the top are worth it!
