More people are reporting loneliness than they have, a decade ago. Though technology allows us to connect with people all across the globe, why has loneliness increased and how does one get over it? One theory is that technology reduces boredom (this theory also happens to be my own lol). Instead of facing boredom and being forced to start a conversation with a stranger, we know are able to turn to our phones to reduce boredom. For the most part it works, but we do miss out on real world social connections this way. Eventually these missed friendships add up to increased loneliness.
Now how do we reduce loneliness? First, there's a difference between "alone" and "lonely". "Alone" is the condition something is in. I am "alone" in this room because no one is here. "Lonely" is a sadness that comes from feeling like you have no support system. So by definition you can be alone and not feel lonely. In turn, you can also feel lonely in a crowd full of people.
With that said, this video will go over how one can overcome loneliness. These are personally how I deal with loneliness. Everyone is different so what may work for me, may not work for you.
