"Higher Love" is a 1986 song by English musician Steve Winwood in collaboration with American songwriter Will Jennings. The female supporting vocals were performed by Chaka Khan giving the song a Gospel feel. The song was the first single released from Winwood's fourth solo LP Back in the High Life and became his first Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit. Songwriter Jennings said in an interview that his inspiration for the lyrics came from memories of beautiful old hymns his aunts and uncles use to sing in church at a time when things were not so much taken for granted. "Higher Love" is a generation past that so now one has to plea for it and said you might call it a modern day hymn. The song earned Winwood two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and ranked #33 by Rolling Stone magazine in its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
