CityNerd | High Speed Rail vs. Air vs. Car: Texas Edition! Dallas to Houston on the Texas Central Railway @CityNerd | Uploaded September 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
High Speed Rail in the USA has so far been limited to the Acela corridor in the northeast, which some would argue still doesn't meet the standard of true high speed rail. In a previous video we acknowledged that California High Speed Rail has had a tough start, but in this video we dive into the Texas Central Railway. In earlier videos we looked at why the connection between Dallas and Houston is so promising -- they are at nearly an optimal distance apart. Yes, there's a reason why investors and operators from countries with a wealth of high speed rail experience -- Japan and Spain -- are bullish on a high speed rail connection between Texas' two largest cities.

This video drills down into the details of an example trip between the two cities, following the journeys of three hypothetical travelers on their way from Southern Methodist University (northern Dallas) to the university of Houston (southeastern Houston). Our three travelers go by car, plane, and Texas Central Railway, and we compare their journeys step by step.

Our video includes overviews of:
- Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Dallas Love Field (DAL)
- George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)
- North Texas Station (future Dallas terminus of the Texas Central)
- Brazos Valley Station (midpoint of the Texas Central, with potential spur to Austin and San Antonio)
- Houston Station (future Houston terminus of the Texas Central)

And, of course, we finish by crowning a winner, evaluating travel time, travel cost, and the travel experience.
