Cycling the world - Asia: episode 30
I wake up in an abandoned shelter in the UAE where I took refuge from a night of relentless wind. The wind is still strong in the morning so I wait it out at a Burger King in a petrol station, knowing there is no point fighting it. By the afternoon I get back on the bike and follow the coastline until the road suddenly ends at a nuclear plant, forcing me back onto the highway.
I ride past the plant and continue through long exposed stretches until I finally find a smaller road closer to the sea. Camping is still difficult with fences and restricted areas everywhere. After sunset I reach a fishermen settlement and try my luck at a mosque. The imam from Bangladesh finds me a room in an empty workers building where I can sleep sheltered from the cold wind, with walls and even a bathroom, a rare bit of comfort.
The next day I return to the highway and keep pushing toward Abu Dhabi. By sunset I manage to hide among bushes and pitch my tent. The following day continues the same, long hours on the road heading deeper into the UAE.
