Spotted Garden Eel – Heteroconger hassi 🦭
The Spotted Garden Eel is one of the most fascinating reef fish in the Indo-Pacific. Instead of swimming around like most eels, it lives in sandy areas near coral reefs, with most of its body hidden inside a self-made burrow.
Only the head and upper body rise above the sand, where it waits in groups and catches tiny plankton drifting past in the current. When danger approaches, the eel disappears backwards into the sand within a second.
