Crossocheilogobio tafangensis – regional form from Zhejiang 🇨🇳 by 晨曦
These Crossocheilogobio tafangensis (Wang, 1935) originate from waters around Lishui and Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province, China and represent a distinctive regional population.
Mature males are especially impressive, developing deep reddish-purple colours and an enormous sail-like dorsal fin with intense red and dark violet bands.
In nature, the species inhabits clear, oxygen-rich streams with sand, gravel, pebbles and larger rocks. The fish stay mainly close to the bottom, often using calmer areas behind stones while grazing on biofilm and searching the substrate for food.
For aquarium care, a mature stream-style setup with good filtration, strong oxygenation and moderate flow is ideal.
• Temperature: 18–24 °C
• Seasonal tolerance: approx. 14–28 °C
• pH: 6.5–7.5
• Water: clean, neutral and highly oxygenated
• Substrate: sand, gravel and rounded stones
Peaceful tankmates and sinking foods are recommended, as this species is a relatively calm bottom feeder.
Formerly known as Microphysogobio tafangensis.
