The suffering and the kleos of Pentheus; a comparison between Pentheus and Achilles; Socrates' references to the Iliad; Socrates as a citizen-soldier; his imagined conversations with Achilles; Plato's appropriation and modification of earlier traditions; Plato's conservatism in the use of older traditions, associated with the figures of Orpheus and Musaeus.
