Nisei soldier, Kazuo Masuda of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, was killed in action in Italy in July 1944. Though his family experienced anti-Asian discrimination in the post-war era, his legacy and impact would be greatly felt through the signing of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. This episode is presented in recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We acknowledge that anti-Asian/American hate is not new, and neither is the fact that Asian Americans have proven time and again that being an American is never a matter of the color of one's skin.
